It was soon thereafter that Lotfi brought Steve to Canada to light for the C.O.C. in New York, where he met Lotfi Mansouri, the then General Director for the Canadian Opera Co. Shortly after he assisted on a couple of operas at the Metropolitan Opera Co. Stephen Ross - Lighting Designer Steve first started lighting opera for Sarah Caldwell at the Opera Co. Previous to this he was head carpenter and construction co-ordinator on shows such as the Junos, Genies, MMVAs and the Geminis while working for McWood Studios. He has been teaching the use of Vectorworks and other CAD software for over 10 years. James McKernan is an Associate Professor of Theatre Technology in the Department of Theatre, York University. La Boheme, produced at Lyric opera of Kansas City, lighting by Steve Ross This session will start with the theatre plan and section from day 1, move through spotlight tools and functions and end with doing a practice plot. He will also discuss utilizing some helpful 3rd party tools that are very useful from the beginning to end of the lighting design process. Look at other functions in spotlight such as PDF set plans, position summary boxes, and the new instrument key tool. We will look his process of bringing in an existing set (or rental) into a theatre that he has worked in more than once by using base drawing (or template) of the permanent infrastructure and lighting equipment. Learn how to create "smart" lighting positions, inserting instruments, and export/import to Lightwright. Instructor Steve Ross will start the session by a brief discussion on customizing the workspace, command key assigning /changing and adjusting the lighting device manager to suite your needs.
